Competitions
Lifesaving Sport is the most demanding, multi-disciplinary sport in the world, combining athletic ability with lifesaving skills and rescue equipment. Lifesaving sport is unique because it is the only sport in which skills are learned first for humanitarian purposes and then applied to competition.
As the Canadian sport governing body for lifesaving in Canada, the Society promotes healthy, active living through its Lifesaving Sport program and promotes public awareness of our drowning and water-related injury prevention aims.
We organize annual championships for age-group, senior and master’s athletes and certification programs for coaches and officials. While lifesaving competition in Canada has changed significantly since the Society’s first Canadian Lifeguard Championships in 1977, some things never change. Our humanitarian mission remains the foundation of all the Society’s activities.
